Privacy Policy

MassTimes.nz ("we", "our", "us") is a directory of Catholic churches in New Zealand. This policy explains what information we handle when you visit the site, why, and what rights you have over it under the Privacy Act 2020.
The short version
This site is a static directory. It has no accounts, no login, no comment forms and no newsletter. The only personal information we ever hold is what you choose to put in an email to us.
Information you give us
The only way to send us information is by email. If you write to us — to correct a Mass time or to ask for a church to be listed — we hold your email address and whatever you put in the message, for as long as it takes to deal with it and to keep a record of why a listing was changed.
We do not sell, rent or trade this information, and we do not use it to market anything to you.
Information collected automatically
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like every web host, Cloudflare records technical details of each request — IP address, browser and operating system, the page requested and the referring page — in order to serve the site, guard against attacks and produce aggregate traffic counts. We see only aggregate figures, not individual visitor records. Cloudflare's privacy policy explains what it does with that data.
Finding nearby churches
If you choose Use my location, your browser asks whether to share your device location. The finder uses those coordinates in your browser to calculate distances; it does not send them to our server or save them in browser storage.
If you search by town, suburb or postcode, the search is matched in your browser against the churches in this directory. It is not sent to us or to any other service. Directions links open Google Maps, where Google's privacy policy applies.
Optional church maps
The map on a church page loads when you select Show map. Your browser then requests mapping software from UNPKG and map images from OpenStreetMap. These requests share your IP address and ordinary browser request details with those services. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy for information about its handling of map requests. Browsing a church page without selecting Show map does not load these map resources.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
We may use Google Analytics 4 to understand traffic, including pages viewed, referrers, approximate location, and device and browser type. Google may set analytics cookies or store an identifier in your browser to do this. You can block the analytics script without affecting the directory, or use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
We may use Google AdSense to display advertising. Google and its advertising partners may set cookies and read identifiers on your device, and may process your IP address, the page you are viewing and your browser details to deliver and measure ads. You can control ad personalisation in Google's ad settings and read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Cloudflare may set operational cookies for security and network purposes; those are described in Cloudflare's cookie policy.
Information about churches
The directory itself contains information about churches, not about you: addresses, phone numbers, parish websites, Mass times and, occasionally, the names of clergy as published by parishes and dioceses themselves. All of it is drawn from sources that are already public, and every record cites where it came from.
If you are named on a page and would like that changed or removed, email us and we will deal with it.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask us for a copy of any personal information we hold about you and to ask for it to be corrected. In practice, for almost every visitor, the answer is that we hold nothing.
To exercise these rights, email us at the address below. If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Links to other sites
Church pages link to parish and diocesan websites, and to mapping services. We are not responsible for those sites or for what they do with your information. Their own privacy policies apply once you leave this one.
Children
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Any change is posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
